The Gallery of \u013dudov\u00edt Fulla (\u013dudov\u00edt Fulla was a painter and graphic artist – one of the founders of modern painting and graphics in Slovakia) is a bold and extraordinary building of the 60-ies of the 20th century by architects Martin Kus\u00fd and \u0160tefan Hatala. The main exhibition of works by \u013dudov\u00edt Fulla is shown on the 2nd floor of the cantilevered section. The gallery will go through a building reconstruction in 2014, which had resulted into an interior design competition organized by the Slovak National Gallery.
Our design deals with the need for the multifunctional use of the main exhibition hall (besides the permanent displays, this space has been used for concerts, lectures, discussions and workshops for many years). Bringing in and taking away the chairs and tables to a storage room located somewhere in the basement is laborious and impractical. At the same time we did not want to disturb the proportions of the exhibition hall by creating a furniture storage area. The core idea of our design is therefore the furniture that performs multiple functions.
We bring the same or similar elements into all areas. The proposed mobile cabinets will serve as a place for storing chairs, tables or sound systems and at the same time as furniture units with audiovisual or text information usable anywhere (Fulla\u2019s words, photos, accompanying texts). The chairs in all rooms are light, easily stackable and usable for different occasions. The convenient mobile benches in the exhibition hall can be positioned as needed. The furniture is in a neutral white color to avoid unwanted attention and competition with the Fulla\u2019s paintings.
The proposal also includes an interior of a coffee bar and creative studio on the 1st floor.<\/p>\n
